tend app
Privacy policy.
How tend handles your information, in plain language. Your private thoughts should stay private, and this explains exactly how we keep it that way.
tend is a mental-health self-help application offering tools, journals, and CBT-based educational resources. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring your information is handled securely and lawfully. This policy explains how the app collects, uses, stores, and shares information.
1. Information we collect
tend is designed to store information locally on your device wherever possible. We only collect the minimal data necessary for app functionality and improvements.
Information you provide directly
- Notes, journal entries, goals, mood logs, habits, reminders, affirmations, or any data you type into the app. This is stored locally on your device and is not accessible to us.
- An optional profile photo, if you choose to add one. This is stored only on your device; we do not upload or access it.
- Your email address and first name, only if you choose to join our optional mailing list (handled by our email provider, Loops). You can unsubscribe at any time.
- Optional contact information if you email us via the “Contact” section.
Automatically collected data, only if required by Apple or Google for app stability:
- Device type and OS version
- Anonymous crash reports
- Basic usage analytics (for example, which screens are used most)
No personally identifiable information is collected through analytics. We do not collect health or medical records, therapy records, names, email addresses or phone numbers through the app (except the first name and email you choose to provide for our optional mailing list), your contact list, your location, your photo library (you may choose a single profile photo, which stays on your device), advertising identifiers, or any data from your device outside the app.
2. How we use information
We use limited, necessary data to maintain app functionality, improve the user experience, diagnose bugs via anonymous crash logs, send you product updates and news only if you have joined our mailing list, and respond to support requests if you contact us. We do not sell, trade, or share your data for advertising or marketing.
3. Data storage and security
Local storage. Most personal content (journals, goals, feelings, entries) is stored only on your device via local storage, for example AsyncStorage. We cannot access this information.
Cloud / server storage. tend does not use cloud storage or external servers for your in-app content. The only information that leaves your device is the email address and first name you provide if you join our mailing list, and any message you send us directly.
Security. We follow best-practice data-minimisation standards: no unnecessary personal data collection, no external databases containing your entries, and limited access within support emails only if you contact us.
4. Third-party services
The app may use:
- Google Firebase Crashlytics or Apple system crash reporting for anonymous diagnostic data.
- Loops, our email provider, to manage our mailing list if you choose to join.
- RevenueCat together with the Apple App Store or Google Play to process and manage subscriptions, if you purchase one.
- Email services (for example Gmail) only when you contact us voluntarily.
We do not use advertising networks, tracking SDKs, or behavioural analytics tools.
5. Children's privacy
tend is safe for teen use but is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided unintended information, contact us at emily@cbtincpt.com.
6. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Request deletion of app data (you can delete all app data directly from your device, for example using “Delete profile and data” in the You tab)
- Unsubscribe from our mailing list at any time
- Access or correct information you have provided
- Withdraw consent to optional analytics
- Request information about how your data is processed
To exercise these rights, email emily@cbtincpt.com.
7. Data retention
We keep data only as long as needed, as set out below:
- On-device content. Everything you create in the app (journal entries, mood logs, goals, thought records, habits, reminders, affirmations, and profile details) is stored solely on your device. We hold no copies. It is retained until you delete it in the app (for example, using “Delete profile and data” in the You tab) or uninstall the app, at which point it is permanently removed.
- Mailing list. If you join our mailing list, the email address and first name you provide are stored by our email provider (Loops) and retained until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you, after which they are deleted.
- Support emails. If you contact us, we keep your message and details only as long as needed to respond, then delete them within a reasonable period.
- Crash logs and diagnostic data. These are anonymous and retained by Apple or Google for a limited period under their policies; we do not store them ourselves.
We do not retain your content on our own servers.
8. International users
If you use the app outside South Africa, your data may be processed in accordance with the regulations of Apple, Google, and any third-party diagnostic services.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available through the app's privacy policy link.
